HDR Brachytherapy: Radiation Delivered From Within

The department also offers High-Dose Rate (HDR) Brachytherapy, an advanced form of internal radiation therapy that delivers radiation directly to or near the tumour. By placing the radiation source close to the affected area, HDR Brachytherapy allows a high dose of radiation to be concentrated on the tumour while significantly reducing exposure to surrounding healthy tissues. It is commonly used in the treatment of gynaecological cancers, prostate cancer, breast cancer, and selected head and neck cancers, depending on the clinical indication. This targeted approach can improve treatment precision and is often completed over a shorter duration compared to conventional radiation schedules.
