Precision Radiation, Delivered With Care
Radiation Oncology is a specialised branch of cancer care that uses high-energy radiation to treat cancer by destroying or damaging cancer cells while preserving surrounding healthy tissue as much as possible. It plays a vital role in the treatment of many types of cancer and may be used as a primary treatment, before surgery to shrink a tumour, after surgery to reduce the risk of recurrence, or in combination with chemotherapy and other systemic therapies. With continuous advancements in technology, radiation therapy has become more precise, allowing clinicians to deliver effective treatment with greater accuracy and improved patient comfort.
- Why It Matters
Precision Radiation Treatment with Advanced Technology
- At Apulki Medical Centre, Radiation Oncology is driven by advanced technology and a patient-centric approach to cancer treatment.
- The department is powered by India's first TrueBeam with HyperArc in a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, enabling highly precise radiation delivery for both simple and complex cancer cases.
- This advanced platform supports sophisticated treatment techniques that are designed to target tumours with exceptional accuracy while minimising radiation exposure to nearby healthy organs and tissues.
- Such precision is particularly valuable when treating cancers located close to critical structures or when high-dose radiation needs to be delivered safely.
- The Continuum of Care
Technology That Adapts to Every Patient
TrueBeam technology offers faster treatment delivery, advanced image guidance, and the ability to adapt treatment according to the patient’s anatomy and tumour position. Combined with HyperArc, it enables non-invasive, high-precision stereotactic radiosurgery and radiotherapy for selected cancers, delivering focused radiation with remarkable accuracy. This advanced capability helps clinicians develop personalised treatment plans that are tailored to the unique characteristics of each patient’s cancer while enhancing treatment efficiency and patient convenience.

HDR Brachytherapy: Radiation Delivered From Within
The department also offers High-Dose Rate (HDR) Brachytherapy, an advanced form of internal radiation therapy that delivers radiation directly to or near the tumour. By placing the radiation source close to the affected area, HDR Brachytherapy allows a high dose of radiation to be concentrated on the tumour while significantly reducing exposure to surrounding healthy tissues. It is commonly used in the treatment of gynaecological cancers, prostate cancer, breast cancer, and selected head and neck cancers, depending on the clinical indication. This targeted approach can improve treatment precision and is often completed over a shorter duration compared to conventional radiation schedules.
Every patient receiving radiation therapy at Apulki Medical Centre undergoes a comprehensive evaluation before treatment begins. Radiation oncologists work closely with medical oncologists, surgical oncologists, radiologists, pathologists, and medical physicists to develop an individualised treatment plan based on the type of cancer, its stage, tumour location, and the patient’s overall health. Advanced imaging, meticulous treatment planning, and rigorous quality assurance protocols ensure that radiation is delivered with the highest possible level of precision.
Radiation therapy may be recommended for a wide range of cancers, including cancers of the breast, brain, head and neck, lung, prostate, cervix, gastrointestinal tract, and many other solid tumours. Depending on the diagnosis and treatment objectives, radiation may be used with curative intent, as an adjuvant therapy following surgery, or as palliative treatment to relieve symptoms and improve quality of life. Each treatment plan is designed to align with established clinical guidelines while considering the patient’s individual needs and preferences.
Throughout the course of treatment, patients are closely monitored to assess their response to therapy and manage any side effects that may arise. The care team provides continuous clinical support, helping patients navigate treatment with confidence while maintaining their comfort and well-being. Regular reviews enable timely adjustments whenever required, ensuring that treatment remains effective and aligned with the patient’s progress.
At Apulki Medical Centre, Radiation Oncology combines advanced technology, clinical expertise, and multidisciplinary collaboration to deliver precision-focused cancer care. With India’s first TrueBeam with HyperArc in a PPP model and HDR Brachytherapy, we are committed to providing radiation therapy that is accurate, personalised, and centred on achieving the best possible outcomes for every patient.
