CT Scan in Pune: Types, Uses, Cost, Preparation and What to Expect

Having clear and quick imaging is very important in cases of unexplained pain, internal injuries or complex medical conditions. A computed tomography (CT) scan uses advanced X-ray imaging combined with computer software that provides highly detailed images. These images provide detailed cross-sections of your bones, blood vessels and soft tissues.

With our advanced multi-slice CT imaging, we provide excellent high-resolution CT scans in Baner, Pune at Apulki Medical Center.

Types of CT Scans We Provide

We provide a vast range of CT scans using our diagnostic imaging facility:

  • Abdomen/Pelvis CT scan

This CT scan provides detailed imaging of your internal organs, including your liver, kidneys, pancreas, spleen and gastrointestinal tract. This is ideal for diagnosing kidney stones, appendicitis, abdominal tumours and inflammatory bowel disease.

  • Head/Brain CT scan

This provides detailed imaging of the brain and head quickly. This can be used to diagnose any injury to the head, severe unexplained headaches, dizziness, fits and early signs of strokes.

  • Chest/High Resolution (HRCT) CT scan

This provides a detailed cross-section of your lungs, heart and chest. The HRCT chest scan is useful for diagnosing any chronic lung disease, lung fibrosis, severe infections and respiratory problems.

  • CT Angiogram

This is a specialist imaging technique that provides information about your blood vessels. A contrast is used, which provides detailed imaging of the blood flow through your arteries and veins. This is often used to identify any blockages to your arteries, aneurysms, pulmonary embolisms and peripheral artery disease.

  • Musculoskeletal CT scan

This scan provides detailed 3D images of complex fractures, joint issues, soft tissue masses and spinal problems. This helps orthopaedic specialists identify the best treatment.

When Would I Be Recommended A CT Scan?

Your consultant may recommend you have a CT scan for various reasons, including:

  • To help diagnose a particular disease: This can identify tumours, blood vessel malformations, infection and any lesions within your body that may not show up on a regular X-ray.
  • In an emergency: This can quickly identify any internal injuries, damage to your organs and internal bleeding after an accident.
  • To help with planning treatment: This scan will give detailed imaging to help plan any operations, biopsies or radiotherapy treatments, and to monitor the progress of your treatment.

How to Prepare for the Test?

To ensure a clear image is obtained during your CT scan, please follow these guidelines:

  • If you are having a contrast-enhanced CT scan, you may be asked to fast (don’t eat or drink anything except water) 4-6 hours beforehand.
  • If you require a contrast, you may be asked to provide a recent serum creatinine result to ensure your kidneys are working properly.
  • Wear loose, comfortable clothing. You will be asked to remove any metal items such as jewellery, belts, glasses and hair clips.
  • If you are pregnant, have a history of severe allergies or have kidney problems, please let our radiologists know.
